In the numerous years that I’ve been in this business, I’ve been asked many, many times if I offer mini sessions. While I do offer them to my ‘baby planners’ for those milestone months between newborn and 1 year old, I have never offered them for a couple of reasons.
First, I never like to put a time limit on my sessions. Typically, mini sessions are scheduled back to back in 20-30 minute time increments. I’ve always wondered what you do if you have a client show up with a child who is a little shy, and takes a bit to warm up to you. Do you tell them sorry, your time is up, my next appointment is here?…or what if someone is running a bit late, or someone shows up early? It just seems very ‘Sears’ like to me, and not that I’m knocking those who do them, they may run perfectly smooth mini sessions, but it always seemed a bit too stressful for me.
Second, I personally do not like to shoot more than 1 or 2 sessions per day. I know many professional photographers shoot a full day of sessions, but I just feel after a session or two, my creativity runs out a bit. I would hate for a client to show up in the 3rd or 4th hour of mini sessions and I’m just worn out, and not giving 100% of myself to them.
Lastly, sometimes I like to talk a lot 🙂 This kind of goes back to my first point of not putting a time limit on sessions. Running my photography business is my full-time job, which means the only people I get to talk to everyday are my husband and kids, no co-workers. So often during a session you may find me just stop taking pictures and talking, or after the session is over it’s fun for me to visit with clients…especially those I’ve known for years, and may only see once a year.
All that being said, I have been trying to think of a way to offer smaller sessions that will be a win-win for both me and my clients, so this is what I’ve decided to try.
“Share-A-Session” – These sessions are basically a full session that you would normally do, only you share it with a friend or family member.
Each family will receive 8-10 digital images from the session. These sessions may include 2 separate families with a maximum of 4 children between the families (please add $25 for each additional child.) Both families decide on a date, location and time that will work for them and will split the session time for portraits. These sessions include:
- a private on-line viewing gallery of approximately 8-10 images for each family from the session.
- 8-10 high-resolution digital images from your session with permission for un-limited personal use.
- a free upload of your images to my recommended on-line lab for ordering your prints
- please note these sessions do NOT include the spiral bound photo books.
The price for this session is $400 (sales tax included) A $100 deposit is required to hold your session date and the remaining $300 is due the day of the session.
Please note – all children having their portrait taken during theses sessions must be over the age of 1 year old, and these sessions must take place outdoors.
I will be offering these sessions on a trial basis, during the months of May through August, on Tuesday and Thursday evenings only. Depending on the interest level, I may decide to extend the dates they are offered, and add them to my pricing full-time.
If you have questions, or would like to book a session with me, please contact me and I’d be happy to help you.
